REPLACING THE RUBBER FRICTION BEARINGS ON THE
STEERING IDLER ARM MOUNT

The rubber friction bearings (5, Figure 1) of the steering idler arm mount are often replaced unnecessarily.
The rubber frictions bearings should only be replaced under the following conditions:

Noisy steering idler arm mount (rubber friction bearings)
^
Bearing play > 0.5 mm
To determine the bearing play, proceed as follows:
1.
Attach a dial gauge with magnetic holder to the frame floor so that the dial gauge and the steering idler arm form a right angle.
2.
Place the measurement rod of the dial gauge between the steering linkage supports. Set dial gauge indicator to "0".
