Starter Motor: Service and Repair
300D
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Remove air cleaner housing.
3.
Remove rear engine compartment closure attaching bolts, then remove.
4.
Loosen starter to transmission attaching bolts.
5.
Lift starter upward then disconnect electrical lines.
6.
Remove starter attaching bolts, then remove.
7.
Reverse to install. Torque starter attaching bolts to 41 ft. lbs.
EXCEPT 300D, 560SEC, SEL & SL
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Remove air cleaner assembly.
3.
Remove starter electrical harness bracket to transmission attaching bolts, then remove.
4.
Remove engine compartment enclosure attaching screws, then remove.
5.
Disconnect oil level and oil pressure sensor electrical connectors.
6.
Remove starter attaching bolts.
7.
Disconnect starter electrical connectors, then remove starter.
8.
Reverse to install. Torque starter attaching bolts to 41 ft. lbs.
560SEC, SEL & SL
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Disconnect starter electrical connectors.
3.
Loosen starter to transmission attaching bolts.
4.
Turn steering wheel in clockwise direction.
5.
Remove starter attaching bolts, then remove in downward direction.
6.
Reverse procedure to install. Torque starter attaching screws to 41 ft. lbs.
