Throttle Cable/Linkage: Adjustments

Throttle Linkage

NOTE: Verify that the throttle control linkage operates smoothly and there are no damaged parts.

1.

Disconnect rod (21) and connecting link (5) at the relay lever.

Verify that the throttle valve is resting against the idle speed stop on the throttle housing. If not, repair or replace the throttle valve as
necessary.

2.

Reconnect connect link (5) to the relay lever. If there is tension when the link is reconnected (change in throttle valve position) adjust the
connecting link length to 3-15/16 in. (100 mm) measured from center of ball sockets.

3.

Press the lever of the cruise control actuator clockwise against the actuator idle stop.

4.

Reconnect rod (21).

The cruise control actuator lever should be pulled approx. 3/64 in. (1 mm) off the actuator idle stop. If not adjust rod (21) to attain the proper
position.

5.

Disconnect connecting link (22).

6.

Adjust connecting link (1) so that the roller (15) is resting free of tension against the end stop of the fulcrum lever (13).  

7.

Remove connecting link (19) and adjust length to 6-27/64 in. (163mm) measured from the center of each ball socket.

8.

With the engine (OFF) depress the accelerator pedal (24) to the full throttle stop position.

The throttle valve lever must be resting against the full throttle stop on the throttle housing. If necessary loosen screw (4) and adjust the
accelerator control linkage so that the correct position is attained.

9.

Let the accelerator pedal slowly return to the idle position.

The roller (15) in the slotted link arm (13) must contact the end stop without tension. If either the idle or full throttle position is not achieved
check the length of pushrod (20). Pushrod (20) should be 4-1/64 in. (105 mm) long measured from the center of the ball socket to the center of
the damping ring. 

 
10.

Press relay lever (23) in the direction of the arrow until the idle stop of the A/T is felt.

11.

Reconnect link (22) without tension. If necessary adjust link (22) to attain the proper adjustment.
