SUBJECT:
MODELS 140 AND 202
REPLACING FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG WIRING HARNESS
In the event of a front passenger airbag deployment, the red plastic connector for the airbag squib (igniter), which is plugged into the gas generator, may
become deformed by the heat generated during deployment. If this occurs, the connector and attached harness must also be replaced when replacing the
airbag as part of vehicle repair. Repairs to safety-related wiring harnesses are not permitted.
Model 202
As of approximately 12/94 production, the wiring harness section for the passenger airbag in model 202 vehicles has been integrated into the taillamp
harness. In order to reduce the expense of replacing the taillamp harness for a deformed airbag connector, it is permissible to use the repair harness
section, part no. 202 540 9109, which was used in earlier production vehicles. Be sure to follow the same routing as the original harness, and secure
repair harness in the same fashion as the harness being replaced. Remove or tape back the unused harness.
Model 140
Similarly, the earlier version passenger airbag harness (part no. 140 440 1834) installed on older model 140 vehicles, may be used as a repair harness for
later production model 140 vehicles. This applies to model 140 vehicles after chassis end no. A207840 (6/94 production). Again, be sure to follow the
same routing, fastening, etc.. and remove or tape back the unused harness.
