Air Bag Control Module: Description and Operation
ETR Control Module with Airbag, Purpose
In the event of a collision the ETR control module with airbag (N2/2) assumes the following functions:

Recognition and evaluation of the accident according to type and severity.

Recognition of the switching state of the left and right front seat belt buckle/belt lock switch (S68/7, S68/8) at the moment of the collision (only
for (USA) and models up to 6/93)

Triggering the driver and passenger airbags
-
Triggering the driver and passenger emergency tensioning retractors
-
Triggering the driver and passenger side airbags (if equipped)
-
Recording of up to three crash reports
-
Shutting off the engine when the airbags are triggered (only on vehicles with common rail ejection (CDR))
During normal vehicle operation the ETR control module with airbag (N2/2) performs the following functions:

Self-test when circuit 15R is "ON" and continuous system monitoring during vehicle operation.

Storage of up to 5 recognized malfunctions in the DTC memory.

Control of the SRS malfunction indicator lamp (A1e15) in the instrument cluster when a malfunction is recognized.

Prevention of erroneous triggering during normal vehicle operation with additional safety sensor.
