Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley: Service and Repair
Replacement
NOTE: Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.
Removal
1. Remove viscous fan coupling if equipped, refer to Cooling System.
2. Remove fan shroud (8) if equipped
3. Remove poly V-belt (9). See: Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and Accessories/Drive Belt/Service and Repair
4. Rotate piston of cylinder 1 to TDC so that Woodruff key (7) is facing vertically up
5. Install locking plate (3) for crankshaft/ring gear, refer to Installing/Removing Crankshaft Retaining Lock For Ring Gear. See: Service and
Repair/Procedures
6. Unscrew central bolt (5) together with dished washers (6)
7. Pull off belt pulley/vibration damper (62)
-
If vibration damper is tight, proceed as follows:
a. Screw in central bolt (5).
b. Position two-arm puller (08) tool No. 000 589 88 33 00, or equivalent, against belt pulley (62) with its claws facing out (arrows).
c. Support spindle of the puller (08) at the head of the central bolt.
d. Pull off hub-of belt pulley/vibration damper (62).
8. Inspect hub for scoring.
-
If wear groove is visible as a result of the radial seal, replace front crankshaft radial seal and install in repair position.
Installation
Install in the reverse order, noting the following:
-
Align Woodruff key (7)
Turn to ensure that the groove is aligned with the Woodruff key (7) in the crankshaft.
If problems with axial, radial runout, inspect axial and radial runout of belt pulley/vibration damper. See: Testing and Inspection
Permissible Runout:
Concentric: 0.6 mm
Axial: 0.6 mm
