Evaporator Core: Testing and Inspection

AR83.30-P-5550P Check Evaporator For Leakage

- with CODE (580) Automatic air conditioning
- with CODE (581) Comfort automatic air conditioning

DANGER:

-

Risk of injury by trapping or crushing, in extreme cases with loss of limbs when working on windshield wiper mechanism

-

Always remove ignition key when working on windshield wiper mechanism.

-

Risk of explosion from welding or soldering work on closed air conditioning system. Risk of poisoning from inhaling overheated 
refrigerant vapors. Risk of injury from skin and eye contact with liquid refrigerant.

Do not carry out any welding work on the closed air conditioning system or in the surrounding area. No smoking or open flames. Wear
eye protection and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated areas. Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit
only after the system has been discharged.

CAUTION:  Protect air conditioning circuit and components from moisture when carrying out repair work.

Remove expansion valve

Install test adapter (1)

CAUTION:  Install test adapter (1) with new O-rings (2, 6).

-

Moisten threads and O-rings with compressor oil.

NOTE:  Install test adapter (1) in vehicle in place of expansion valve.

Screw for expansion valve: 10 N.m

Connect tester to test adapter (1).

Lokab system pressure and leakage tester
See "Commercially Available Tools" given below.

Check evaporator for leakage

NOTE:  Apply maximum pressure of 20 bar to evaporator. Pressure should be kept constant min. 10 minutes.

If result is negative, Remove, install evaporator.

Disconnect tester from test adapter (1)

Lokab system pressure and leakage tester

Remove test adapter (1)

Install expansion valve.
