Steering Shaft Coupler: Service and Repair
Remove/install Steering Coupling
CAUTION: See notes on self-locking nuts and bolts

Move the steering column out to maximum extension
NOTE: Necessary in order to separate the steering coupling (25).

Switch off easy entry function for driver's seat and steering wheel

Vehicles with memory function.
CAUTION:

Otherwise the driver's seat and steering wheel move to a different position, e.g. when the driver's door is opened or closed.

The upper frame may be damaged when the holding device is installed.
NOTE: It is switched off using the buttons on the steering wheel in the "Comfort" menu on the multifunction display.
DANGER:

Risk of fatal accident from vehicle slipping or toppling off the lift platform
-
Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points
specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

Jack up vehicle

Remove rear engine compartment paneling at the bottom
5
Detach exhaust shielding plate (25c) of steering coupling (25) from control valve of rack-and-pinion steering (22)
NOTE: Three bolts.
