Vibrations from Power Train When Cornering and/or Shuddering When Making Sharp Turns at Low Speeds

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of vibrations and shuddering when making sharp turns at low speeds, the cause may be
from changes in the friction coefficient of the clutch disks in the planetary gear set of the transfer-case.

If this is the first repair attempt on the vehicle, perform the oil change as described in WIS document AR28.10-P-2500p.

1.

Run until the transfer case is at least warm to the touch and drain oil in installation position immediately afterwards.

2.

Pour in fresh oil (A001 989 23 03 10). To do this, pour approximately 0.25 - 0.5l of fresh oil through the filler hole with the transmission / transfer
case lowered and the drain hole sealed

3.

Move transmission back to the installation position and drain the oil again.

4.

Seal drain hole and fill transfer case to full level as per filling specification (refer to WIS document AR28.10-P-2500p).

5.

Run in the fresh oil: drive the vehicle for approximately 12-18 miles at a speed of 40-60 MPH to coat the disk.

6.

Shuddering in the turning circle should no longer be detectable. If it is, repeat step 5.

If this is the second repair attempt on the vehicle, replace the transfer case. Refer to WIS document AR28.10-P-0100p (203), AR28.10-P-0100T
(211) or AR28.10-P-0100i (220).
