MODEL 203 MODEL YEAR 2003
FLASH ENGINE CONTROL MODULE

This Service Campaign has been initiated because DCAG has determined that on the affected vehicles (see VIN range below) a software characteristic
may affect the rotational speed of the starter. The engine control unit will be reprogrammed with optimized software to correct this condition.

Please review the Effective Serial Number chart located below and if necessary repair the subject vehicles during the vehicle's next service.

Prior to performing this Service Campaign:

Please check VMI to insure the vehicle is involved and to determine if the vehicle has been previously repaired.

^

Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin.

Approximately 924 vehicles are affected.

Effective Serial Number Range

Note:

Every vehicle in the VIN range may not be included in the campaign. VMI must always be checked before performing campaigns to verify that the
campaign is required on a specific vehicle. VMI always overrides the bulletin in reference to a specific vehicle's inclusion in a particular campaign.
Please also note that Recall and Service Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.

Procedure

1.

Preflash requirements:

Connect battery charger to vehicle's battery (ensure battery charger is ON during flashing).

Ensure better voltage is > 12 volts.

^

Turn off all electrical consumers (climate control system, head lamps, etc.).

^

If using SDS Compact 2 or 3 to flash vehicle, ensure latest software release is loaded on SDS.

^

If using SDS Basic to flash vehicle, ensure latest flash CD is installed in SDS CD drive.

2.

Switch ignition ON.

3.

Connect Star Diagnosis to vehicle using the 16-pin diagnostic connector.

4.

Navigate through the following screen menus in DAS to program engine control module: Select model 203/Control units/Drive/ME-SFI/Control
Unit Adaptations/Control Module Programming. Follow on-screen instructions.

Note:

Engine cooling fan will run during flashing.
