Horn: Description and Operation
Fanfare Horns

Function requirement of fanfare horns:

Function

When the impact absorber on the multifunction steering wheel is pressed, one or more of the fanfare horns pushbuttons (S110s5, S111s5) are
actuated.

The fanfare horns pushbuttons (S110s5, S111s5) are read in voltage-coded by the electronic ignition / starter switch control module (N73).

The electronic ignition / starter switch control module (N73) sends a corresponding message over the interior CAN to the front SAM control
module with fuse and relay module (N10/1).

This actuates the fanfare horns relay (N10/1kA).

The relay switches term. 30 through to the fanfare horns (H2).

The horn sounds. 

NOTE

One cable attached to the fanfare horns (H2) is always grounded. Actuation therefore occurs by switching to terminal 30 (via N10/1kA ).
The coil of the fanfare horns relay (N10/1kA) is permanently connected to terminal 15R. When the fanfare horns (H2) are actuated, the other connection
is grounded via the front SAM control module with fuse and relay module (N10/1).

NOTE:  Fanfare horns pushbuttons (S110s5, S111s5)

The four fanfare horns pushbuttons are located on a printed circuit board below the impact absorber on the multifunction steering wheel. Use of four
pushbuttons ensures that the fanfare horns can be operated at any point on the impact absorber. The two right and the two left push buttons are each
connected in parallel. They are read in voltage-coded by the electronic ignition / starter switch control module (N73) together with pushbuttons of the left
and right pushbutton groups on the multifunction steering wheel (S110, S111).
If another button on the multifunction steering wheel is operated at the same time as one of the fanfare horn buttons, the fanfare horns have priority.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis is performed using the STAR Diagnosis tool.
