Parking Brake Pedal: Service and Repair

AR42.20-P-0510A Remove/install parking brake pedal assembly

NOTE: For model name/model number cross reference refer to Model Designation Table. See: Application and ID

Procedure 

1. Models 129 and 140, remove heat shield of exhaust system.
2. Models 202 and 210, remove cover panel (12i) under rear squab.
3. Preload automatic slack adjuster, refer to Parking Brake Cable. See: Parking Brake Cable/Adjustments
4. Detach return spring (94).
5. Model 129, loosen adjusting screw (89). 
6. Model 129, remove cover below instrument panel.
7. Remove floor covering at the front.
8. Detach brake control cable (85) from the cable bracket on the pedal (75).

Use clip remover tool 129 589 11 63 00 (043).  

-

The brake control cable can also be removed by destroying the clamping ring (84).

-

To install, insert new clamping ring into the groove of the brake control cable.

Pay attention to rubber grommet (85b)

9. Unscrew foot controls (71), by unscrewing bolts (72) (with welded-on nut in A-pillar).

-

Only loosen lower bolt (72) and bolts unhook foot controls (71) (with friction  brake) (the press-in nut in the A-pillar may fall out)

Model 210, the foot controls (71) are fixed by two bolts.

10. Disconnect plug for parking brake switch (S12).

For this step, raise foot controls slightly.

11. Detach control cable (79).

-

First, detach control cable (79) at the release lever (77).

-

On foot controls with friction brake, detach control cable (79) at foot controls (71).

On Models 163, 210 and 220 use shop made tool (010). See: Parking Brake Cable/Tools and Equipment

12. Remove foot controls (71).

-

Do not loosen Torx bolts on the back of the foot controls.

-

Refer to function of foot controls with friction brake. See: Description and Operation

13. Install in reverse sequence.

-

Tighten bolts of foot control to footwell to: 12 Nm

14. Release automatic slack adjuster, refer to Unload Automatic Slack Adjuster. See: Parking Brake Cable/Adjustments
15. Model 129 adjust parking brake. See: Adjustments
