Display in Instrument Cluster Indicates "Engine Oil Level Above Max." While Driving
If you encounter instances in Model WIS 203 vehicles up to VIN A292753 and up to VIN F222639 where the display in the instrument cluster indicates
engine oil level above max." while driving, please refer to the following possible causes / remedies.
Cause 1: The oil level check indicates Reduce Oil Level"; also when checking with oil dipstick part no. 120 589 07 21 00, oil level is too high.
Remedy 1: Correct oil level.
Note:
THE SPECIFIED OIL FILL CAPACITY, WITH OIL FILTER CHANGE, OF ALL US-VERSION
W1S203 (including higher serial nos.) IS REDUCED FROM 8.0 LITERS (8.5 QUARTS) TO 7.5 LITERS (7.9 QUARTS).
Cause 2: Incorrect oil data record. The oil level check indicates "Oil Level OK". Also oil level is OK when checking with oil dipstick and no oil sensor
error is stored in the DTC memory of the engine control module.
Remedy 2: Load modified FSS data record. If code read out is set to Not Coded", select corresponding engine model and confirm.
Note:
The modified data record is obtained as of DAS CD version 2/02.
Cause 3: The oil level is OK but with oil level error stored in the DTC memory of the engine control module.
Remedy 3: Replace oil sensor. For procedure, refer to WIS document no. AF18.40-P-2402A.
