As part of the liberalization of EU regulations, the legislation no longer requires an inspection at an authorized technical test center (for example the
German Technical Inspection Association (TUV) when retrofitting a trailer hitch (AHV)).
Prerequisites:

The additional phrase "if installed at the factory" must be printed in the registration papers (in clause 33 to clause 27: E1 00...).

An E1 test symbol must be affixed to the trailer hitch.
Installation inspections carried out at an authorized technical test center (e.g. the German Technical Inspection Association (TUV)) are still valid for
older vehicles or trailer hitches with a national test symbol (not an E1 test symbol).
On trailers with an anti-swerve device it is not necessary to grease the ball (refer to trailer instructions). Advise the customer accordingly.
Trailer hitches are homologated safety-related parts. They must be fitted to the vehicle by trained personnel. Trailer hitches which have been damaged in
an accident, by bottoming or by an impact from behind must be replaced; subsequent modifications such as bending, machining, welding, etc. are not
permitted.
The body sealant and underfloor protection must be removed from all the body mounting points of the trailer hitch. The mounting points should then be
cleaned with a commercially available cleaning agent. Apply anticorrosion paint to bare-metal areas of the body.
The coupling ball must have a minimum diameter of 49 mm at all points, measured using a caliper gauge. The ball must be greased before use to reduce
wear. Advise the customer accordingly.
The customer should be asked to read the chapters entitled "Trailer Hitch" and "Trailer Operation" in the vehicle's operating instructions.
