Test values for steering knuckle

Check Front Toe Angle Differential

NOTE:  Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.

INSPECTION 

1. Ensure toe-in at front axle is correct
2. Check toe-out on turns

NOTE:

Toe-out on turns is measured to check the steering geometry.

This is the difference in wheel steer angle between the wheel on the outside of the curve and the wheel on the inside of the curve when the
wheel on the inside of the curve is steered through 20°.

Greater deviations may be due to the following causes, assuming that the camber and caster are correctly adjusted. 
a. Toe-in not adjusted in the straight ahead position of the steering gear so that the track rod lengths are uneven. 
b. Steering knuckle arm, pitman arm, or steering idler arm distorted. 
c. Excessive deviations at the front end on vehicles involved in accidents (frame longitudinal member, frame cross member, wheelhouse and

firewall or on the front axle carrier) which have an adverse effect on the range of adjustment for camber an caster so that large differences
in toe-out on turns result between the left and right.

SPECIFICATIONS 

Toe-out on turns with wheel on the inside of the curve turned 20°

Standard Suspension: -1°5' ± 30'
Sport Suspension: -0°45' ± 30' 

General Information, Chassis Alignment Check

NOTE:  A suitable electronic alignment measurement system must be used.

1. Drive vehicle onto measuring system
2. Unlock rotary and sliding plates
3. Install brake pedal lock on brake pedal
4. Attach quick-action clamps tool No. 124 589 01 31 00, or equivalents to wheels.
5. Attach and adjust measuring heads
6. Perform initial measurement
7. Using suitable mechanical or electronic level measurement equipment, check vehicle level at front and rear axle, refer to Suspension
