The CD changer (A2/6) is controlled on the COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3) via the digital data bus (D2B). The audio signals
from the CD changer are also transferred on the D28 bus and amplified by A40/3; on vehicles with sound system the signals are amplified by the sound 
amplifier (A2/13). Acoustic output is accomplished by the vehicle loudspeaker system.

Only 12 cm CD's may be used; 8 cm CD adapters are not permissible.

The COMAND CD changer system offers the following features:

Scan feature
The titles on one CD or the first title of the CD's in the entire magazine are played for 8 seconds. After completely running through the titles the
scan feature is terminated automatically.

Random feature

All titles on a CD or in the entire CD magazine are played according to the random principle.

Repeat feature
A repeat option is available for one title or one CD or the entire CD magazine.

Fast forward/reverse (music search)
During fast forward/reverse the music can be heard so that it is possible to play or skip certain sections of a title.

CD title assignment feature

Each CD is assigned a permanently stored so-called table of contents (TOC) entry. This allows the COMAND system to clearly recognize each CD and
automatically assign it a name once the user has given it a title (even when the CD is then inserted in another CD magazine).
The TOC entry also contains information on the number of titles on a CD and the total CD playing time.

Volume/Tone Settings

A differentiation is necessary between the COMAND audio sources and service sources:

Volume setting

Changing the volume of one audio source has an equivalent effect on all other audio sources. In the same manner the volume for the service sources is
adjusted in common.

The volume of the voice prompt for navigation can be changed during voice prompt output. A minimum difference of at least 12.5 dB is maintained
automatically between the volume of the audio signal and the voice prompt. This ensures that voice prompt can always be heard well.

Tone settings

The COMAND system allows various tone settings (e.g. bass/treble, balance, fader, ...) for each audio source. The tone settings selected for the radio
apply simultaneously for the traffic station announcements. Settings selected for the navigation voice prompt also effect the voice control system.

Moreover, permanently stored tone settings can be called for optimization of the sounds from the audio sources, e.g.:

When the tone focus (balance, fader) is changed, the volume ratio for the individual speakers changes.

The signal processing required for the volume and tone settings is accomplished either by the audio components integrated into the COMAND operating,
display and control module (A40/3) or by the sound amplifier (A2/13) (with code 810).
