Control of COMAND system on multifunction steering wheel
The systems controlled by the COMAND feature can be operated and information displayed on the systems with the aid of the multifunction display
(A1p13) in the instrument cluster (A1) and the switches on the multifunction steering wheel. These systems are:

Audio:
Radio, CD changer (optional), cassette player

Navigation

Telephone
All data exchanged between the instrument cluster (A1) and the COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3) is accomplished via the CAN
passenger compartment bus:
All buttons pressed on the multifunction steering wheel are read in by the jacket tube module (N80) voltage coded. The jacket tube module (N80) relays
the corresponding messages to the CAN passenger compartment bus. The instrument cluster (A1) interprets the data with the system (audio, radio,
navigation, telephone) momentarily displayed on the multifunction display. This interpretation is necessary, because the function of the buttons depends
on the multifunction display. The CAN data interpreted by the instrument cluster (A1) is then valid for the COMAND operating, display and control
module (A40/3).
Changing the system on the multifunction display has no effect on the display on the COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3),
however, it does have an effect in the opposite direction.
