The injection system control module (N3) should also be read with the Star Diagnosis tool for the diagnosis.

The instrument cluster (A1) receives the sensor data from the continuous fuel injection control module (N3) via the engine compartment CAN bus.

Oil change

It is necessary to reset the ASSYST following each oil change. When the system is reset the remaining mileage and remaining time are reset. Resetting
can be accomplished on the instrument cluster (A1) or with the STAR diagnosis tool.

When the system is reset the following data is stored:

-

Current mileage rounded off to 100

-

Total quantity of oil added during last interval

-

Current remaining mileage

-

Current remaining time

-

Product of quality factors

-

The data from the last 5 resets in 5 data records

This data can be read out only with the STAR diagnosis tool!
If the specified quantity of oil is not added during an oil change, the initial mileage is reduced (internal mileage).

NOTE:  (The procedure for resetting on the instrument cluster is described in the document "Operating instructions").

Recognition of quantities added

The last 10 quantities added and the corresponding mileage readings during the current interval can be called up with the STAR diagnosis tool.

Normally recognition of oil added is indicated by an increase in the remaining mileage on the instrument cluster.

Quantities of oil added are recognized only when the following conditions are fulfilled:

Quantity of oil added at least 1 l,

-

after adding oil the vehicle must be driven at least 5 km under normal operating conditions at an oil temperature of at least 60 °C.

However, there are instances in which the remaining mileage reading after oil is added do not appear logical; according to the reading no bonus or only a
small bonus is given.

This is because the remaining mileage is always displayed within the range of 15,000 km to 30,000 km (or 10,000 to 20,000 miles), even though
internal calculation is accomplished with the actual values which may be outside of this range. These interval values can be displayed only with the
STAR diagnosis tool.

A few examples of this are shown in the following diagram. Here the horizontal (x) axis represents the service interval and the vertical (y) axis the
remaining mileage in km.

The display on the ASSYST in the instrument cluster is always within the unshaded range.

However, the remaining mileage calculated internally can also be in one of the two shaded areas. These internal values can be displayed only with the
STAR diagnosis tool.
