Electronic Ignition Switch - Replacement Procedure

Electronic Ignition Switch (EIS) Replacement

For the above models a new Electronic Ignition Switch (EIS) procedure has been implemented within STAR Diagnosis. If parts replacement is required,
as of start of production, only Electronic Ignition Switch (EIS) with part number 215 545 07 08 is available for all vehicles.

Since the vehicles have different CAN bus configurations before and after model year 2001, the following must be observed when installing a
replacement EIS.

The function "Read Coding And Transfer To A New Control Module" is no longer possible. Consequently, manual version coding is required when
using STAR Diagnosis.

Note: 

For this purpose, it will be necessary to first print out the current EIS version coding before removing.

1.

EIS Replacement Using STAR Diagnosis Version 01/03 - 02/03

A.

Install new EIS.

B.

Using STAR Diagnosis enter into the following menus: Control Units --> Body --> EIS Electronic Ignition Switch --> Control Unit
Adaptations --> Read Coding And Change If Necessary --> All Codes.

C.

Manually enter the printed version of the original EIS version coding into the new EIS.

D.

In order for the EIS to be learned to the interior CAN bus, select "Turn Signal Feedback When Opening & Closing Via Remote Control
Key" from the menu list.

E.

Select "On (models 220, 215 prior to model year 2001)".

EIS Replacement Using STAR Diagnosis Version As Of 03/03

A.

Install new EIS

Note: 

The following error messages will appear after replacing the EIS: Automatic Coding Not Performed" and New control module not
compatible".

B.

Using STAR Diagnosis enter into the following menus: Control Units --> Body --> EIS Electronic Ignition Switch --> Control Unit
Adaptations --> Read Coding And Change If Necessary --> All Codes.

C.

Manually enter the printed version of the original EIS version coding into the new EIS.

D.

From the "Read Coding And Change If Necessary" main menu, select "Adaptation Of Electronic Ignition Switch To Vehicle Model".

E.

Continue by selecting F2 button "Adapt Electronic Ignition Switch To Vehicle Model".

F.

Continue by selecting F3 button "Vehicle Model/Turn Signal Lamp Feedback When Opening & Closing With Remote Control Key".

G.

Continue by selecting F3 button "Select On (model 215, 220 prior to model year 2001)", and confirm by pressing the F3 button.
