Starter Motor: Service and Repair
Remove starter, install
DANGER:

Risk of explosion from hydrogen gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns from swallowing battery electrolyte. Risk of injury to eyes and
skin suffering caustic burns from battery electrolyte or from contact with damaged lead acid batteries.

No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Pour battery electrolyte only into suitable and
appropriately marked containers.

Disconnect ground line of battery
CAUTION: Do not connect a quiescent current retention device. A short circuit could occur, if the electrical line circuit 30 (B+) comes
into contact with ground.
NOTE:

Vehicles with Code (889) Keyless Go. Switch off engine, remove Keyless-Go cards from the vehicle and store outside of transmitter range.

Turn key in the electronic ignition lock EIS into position "O". Key cannot be withdrawn.

Detach lower engine compartment paneling

Unscrew bolts (3)

Bolt of starter to crankcase: 42 Nm

Unscrew nuts (4) and disconnect electric cables (1/2)

Nut of connection of circuit 30: 14 Nm
-
Nut of connection circuit 50: 6 Nm

Take starter (M1) down and out

Install in the reverse order

Carry out function check

Render electrical system operational
NOTE: Perform basic programming.
