WARNING:

During the following operations pay attention to the utmost cleanliness at the workplace and while carrying out the repair

Only the specified tool may be used

-

Before starting the repair remove the loose contamination from the steering gear without using any cleaning agent

Remove clamps (1) from the two bellows (2)

NOTE:  Installation: Replace clamps (1).

Press the outer clamps together and shift bellows (2) towards the tie rod end

Detach inner tie rod with axial joint (3)

CAUTION:  Do not use force (hammer blows, severe leverage) otherwise the inner tie rod with axial joint (3) will be damaged.

NOTE:
-

Detach the left and right side.

-

Secure rack to prevent it from turning, counterhold using a 22 mm open wrench.

Remove screws (4).

CAUTION:  Observe tightening torque otherwise the steering housing (14) will be damaged.

Unscrew bolt (5).

Remove oil lines (6)

Loosen the adjusting screw (7) approx. 2 revolutions

NOTE:  Mark the position before loosening the adjusting screw (7)

Mount the stop plate (8) on the left and right of the rack

Remove covering cap (9)

Unscrew bolts (10).

Screw in stud (11)

CAUTION:  Removal: The stud (11) must be screwed in for removing the control head (12) in order not to damage the radial shaft seal
(13) and tooth flanks.

NOTE:  The stud (11) can be shop-made (M8x 50mm).

Rotate the Input shaft counterclockwise

NOTE:  Until the control head (12) detaches from the steering housing (14).

Remove control head (12)

NOTE:  Installation: Install new O-ring.

Remove spring washer (15)

Unscrew stud (11)

Remove from the rack-and-pinion steering any oil which has run in from the control head

NOTE:  Turn rack-and-pinion steering with (opening facing downwards and allow oil to drain out. In order to preclude contaminants, do not use
any cleaning agents, any shop towels or cleaning cloths.

Remove rotary shaft seal (13)

CAUTION:  Do not position puller on threads or too far Inward to prevent damage to threads and/or O-ring seat.

20 Grease outer surface of radial shaft seal (13)

NOTE:  Apply grease with fingers, do not use other aid

Hammer in radial shaft seal (13)

CAUTION:  Pay attention to correct seating of the drift and guide sleeve, otherwise the radial shaft seal (13) will be damaged.
