Front Steering Knuckle: Service and Repair

AR33.25-P-0400I Remove/Install Steering Knuckle

- except CODE (Z07) Top Protection [model 220]
- except CODE (979) Special protection version [model 220]

Remove/Install

DANGER:

-

Risk of injury Body parts may become jammed or crushed. Risk of injury Skin and eyes may be injured due to brake fluid spraying out
at high pressure when working on the SBC brake system

-

Deactivate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS.

-

Risk of death. Death may result if vehicle slips or topples from the lifting platform.

-

Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points
specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

CAUTION:

-

When carrying out service and repair operations on the front-end assembly, always take great care to prevent leaving scratches, notches
or fissures in the aluminum components. Otherwise the service life of the parts will be affected

NOTE:  Installation:  Tighten nuts and bolts of chassis components only in curb condition.

Deactivate SBC brake system
-

Model 230

Remove front wheel

Remove brake disc

Remove front wheel hub

Detach brake caliper dust shield

Detach left front rpm sensor (L6/1) on steering knuckle

NOTE:  Installation:  When installing the left front rpm sensor (L6/1) ensure that the grommet for sealing the speed sensor bore in the brake
cover is pushed onto the left front rpm sensor (L6/1)

Press the tie rod joint (10a) from the stub axle unit (5)

Press guide joint (8) out of steering knuckle (5)

Press radius rod (18) out of steering knuckle (5).

NOTE:  Do not detach the radius rod from the front axle carrier.
