AR35.30-P-0620I Remove/Install Rear Axle Shaft

Remove/Install Rear Axle Shaft

- with screwed rear axle shafts

Shown On Model 220 With Airmatic

Remove/Install

Remove twelve-point collared nut (12) from rear axle shaft (37)

Remove rear wheel

3.1 Remove right muffler

-

For removal of the right rear axle shaft (37), see removing the exhaust system

3.2 Remove exhaust pipe at flange.

Remove rear axle shafts (37) from connecting flange

CAUTION:  To prevent wheel bearing damage the vehicle must not be moved on its wheels with the rear axle shaft (37) removed.

NOTE:  Bring the rear axle shaft (37) into a position which is roughly horizontal, push together and remove downwards at an angle from the
connecting flange.

CAUTION:
-

Installation:  Replace self-locking bolts and shims

Lightly oil bolts at thread and bolt head contact surface.

Pull rear axle shaft (37) out of the rear axle shaft flange and remove

CAUTION:
-

Do not damage rubber sleeves or rotor for speed sensor.

If the rear axle shaft is difficult to remove then press rear axle shaft out of rear axle shaft flange

Inspecting

Check constant velocity joints, boots and end cover for leaks and damage

NOTE:
-

If outer constant velocity joint is defective then replace complete rear axle shaft.

If the inner constant velocity joint is defective, boots and end covers are damaged or leaking, replace the appropriate parts, see
removing/installing inner constant velocity joint or boots on the rear axle shaft

Install in the reverse order.
