Starter Turns but Engine Does Not Start / Selector Lever Cannot be Moved Out of Position "P"
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles that the starter turns (cranks) but the engine may not start or the selector lever cannot be
moved out of park ("P") position, this may be due the no-load (Quiescent) current switch (RSS) not functioning correctly. To remedy, follow the
procedure below.
1. Actuation of Quiescent current cut out relay: Connect a battery charger, start DAS... control units -> body -> BNS (Vehicle power supply control
module -> actuations -> N82/1k1 (Quiescent current cutout relay) to actuate the no-load current switch. When RSS is actuated, a clicking sound
can be heard from the pre-fuse box area. It is possible that an audible clicking noise is there, however, RSS is inoperative; follow DAS by testing
the cutout relay and its signal line.
2. Inspect the pre-fuse box Q-Level and replace, if necessary. Check the Q-Level of the pre-fuse box to be at least Q5. Q5 can be identified by a blue
dot and a white label (Figure 1).
