Check Automatic Transmission Cooler Line for Restrictor Orifice
MBUSA has been informed by Daimler AG that the restrictor orifice may have been installed incorrectly in the transmission cooler line of certain MY
2009 S- and CL-Class 4MATIC vehicles. This can result in restricted transmission fluid flow and rapid transmission failure. Dealer will inspect the
cooler line and if the restrictor orifice has been incorrectly installed, replace the transmission and transmission cooler line under normal warranty.
Prior to performing this Customer 1 Action:
Please check VMI to insure the vehicle is involved and to determine if the vehicle has been previously repaired.
Procedure
1. Check front end of transmission cooler line (A, Figure 1) for restrictor (B) installation:

Loosen rear section, of front lower engine panel; then remove lower middle engine panel.

Disconnect wire harness bracket (arrow, Figure 1) from transmission.

Disconnect transmission line support clamps from transmission line.

Disconnect front end of transmission cooler line (A, Figure 1) from front of the transmission:

If there is a restrictor (B, Figure 1) installed in the line: Installation of restrictor is INCORRECT. Stop and replace transmission. Please
submit a WSG pre-authorization form for approval. Please enter key word: "Restrictor". Submit transmission replacement under normal
warranty.

If there is no restrictor installed proceed to step 2.
