Messages of the lowest priority belong to category 3. These messages can be acknowledged by pressing the reset button (r). There is no warning
tone.

If there are no other faults, the display changes to the previous display screen after acknowledging a fault message.

Warning tone

The warning tone described above takes either the form of a chime in model 215 and in model 220 as of 01.09.99, or the form of a buzzer sound in
model 220 up to 31.08.99.

NOTE:  With some messages a warning or indicator lamp is also actuated for the duration of the fault. This applies even if the corresponding message
was acknowledged.

Storing of messages

Messages of category 1 are not stored. However, most of the fault messages in categories 2 and 3 are stored in a buffer memory in the instrument cluster
(A1) after they have been acknowledged.

Fault messages of categories 2 and 3 that have not been acknowledged are automatically appended to the buffer memory when terminal 15R OFF is
switched Up to a maximum of 16 fault messages can be stored. If another fault occurs, the oldest fault message is overwritten.

Display of warning and fault messages

With very few exceptions (e.g. lights warning, key warning), fault messages are only displayed when the engine is running.

Current fault messages

-

are displayed immediately. If the fault occurs for just a short time, messages of categories 2 and 3 are displayed for at least 2 seconds. Messages of
category 1 are only displayed for as long as the fault is present.

Several current fault messages

-

If several fault messages of different priorities are present at the same time, the fault message with the highest priority is displayed. New fault
messages with the same or higher priority hide the previously displayed message.

If several faults of the same category are present at the same time, the display alternates the fault messages cyclically every 5 seconds.

Acknowledged messages reminder

If the driver acknowledges messages while driving, these messages are displayed again as a reminder when terminal 15R is switched OFF. Current
messages, e.g. lights warning, hide this, reminder function.

If there were no messages, the basic screen appears when terminal 15R is switched OFF.

Displaying stored fault messages

When the instrument cluster (A1) is active you can scroll through the stored messages:

Press the system select pushbutton (S111s3) repeatedly until "-- FAULTS" appears in the multifunction display (A1p13).

Scroll through the fault messages using the scroll forward/back button (S110s1). The messages are displayed in the order in which they were
acknowledged.

The sequence of the displayed messages if there are several faults is discussed using an example:

The windshield washer fluid level has fallen below the minimum mark. The following category 3 message appears on the multifunction display
(A1p13): "CHECK WASHER FLUID LEVEL" (Figure 1).

If another fault now occurs with the generator (GZ) the following category 2 message is displayed:
"BATTERY/GENERATOR CHECK - GO TO GARAGE" (Figure 2). This message hides the first message because it has a higher priority.

If the engine coolant level now falls below the minimum mark, the following category 2 message is displayed.
"CHECK COOLANT LEVEL" (Figure 3). The display now alternates every 5 seconds between this message and the message
"BATTERY/GENERATOR CHECK - GO TO GARAGE" (Figure 2), as two messages with the same priority are present.

In this example, it is assumed that no message has been acknowledged.
