the entire power steering rack and pinion assembly must be replaced. Proceed with Step 4 below, if the assembly is found to be leaking fluid. If the
fittings are found to dry of any fluid, continue with Step 5 below.

See WIS doc.: AR46.20-P-0600I for procedure to replace power steering rack and pinion assembly. Return assembly to MBUSA, only if the
assembly was found to be leaking.

Assemble torque wrench as shown in Figure 2, using the following tools: 1/2 inch extension of suitable length, 210 589 01 16 00 special extension
piece, and 912 589 01 03 00 modified (crowfoot) boxed end wrench.

NOTE:

Observe the position of both the special extension piece and the modified boxed end wrench as seen in Figure 2, when assembling the torque wrench.
Set torque wrench to 8ONm.

Place the assembled torque wrench onto the upper power steering damper line filling (2 [upper], Figure 1) and push torque wrench in direction C"
(C, Figure 3) to check/retorque the upper line fitting. The top of Figure 3 is the front of the vehicle.

NOTE:

When using torque wrench for step 6 above, counterhold (B, Figure 3) with left hand and use right hand to apply torque in direction C. It is
absolutely critical to tighten the damper line fitting, but never to loosen it.
