Traction Control Module: Description and Operation
Electronic Stability Program (ESP)
Task
Perform all brake functions of ABS, Acceleration Slip Regulation (ASR) and Electronic Stability Program (ESP). Influence the
engine/transmission management in the event of ESP control.
On vehicles with Speed-Sensitive Power Steering (SPS) the control module also contains the electronics and control logic required for this.
Supplies other systems with the vehicle speed signal and wheel speed status signal.
Supplies the instrument cluster with the signals for the lamps via a serial line or Controller Area Network (CAN) data bus:
Brake pad wear indicator (A1e6), low brake fluid level/parking brake indicator lamp (A1e7), ABS MIL (A1e17), ESP MIL or BAS/ESP
malfunction indicator lamp (A1e42 or A1e47) and ESP warning lamp (A1e41)
Partial Function Of SPS
The control module calculates the specified current to actuate the SPS P-valve (Y10) from the internal vehicle speed and status signal
NOTE: For model name/model number cross reference refer to Model Designation Table. See: Application and ID
Function
The ESP control module is divided up Functionally as follows'.
