Evaporator Core: Description and Operation

Evaporator, purpose

The evaporator serves for cooling, dehumidifying and purifying the passenger compartment air. The expansion valve is screwed directly onto the
evaporator.

Behr Company: Disc-type evaporator consisting of soldered half-discs with fins.

Evaporator, function

The liquid refrigerant is injected into the evaporator at high pressure.
The heat required for evaporation is taken from the air flowing past the evaporator which is there by cooled. The soldered half-discs with fins
provide a large evaporator surface to ensure rapid heat exchange.
The air humidity which condenses out of the air is drained to the outside through water condensate drain hoses. In addition solid particles in the air
are bound by the condensing water thereby purifying the air.
