Receiver Dryer: Description and Operation
Purpose
-
Filter out chemical and mechanical impurities in the refrigerant
-
Volume reservoir for refrigerant
-
Dehydration of the refrigerant
The liquid refrigerant passes under pressure into the receiver where it flows through a stainless steel screen to the filter block.
The filter block can absorb a slight quantity of water.
The pores in the filter block are matched precisely to the molecular size of the refrigerant so that the refrigerant can flow through the filter block.
All other substances are held back and deposited on this molecular screen. The purified refrigerant flows through a riser pipe to the expansion valve.
