Controlling CD player

The CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) is connected to the Digital Data Bus (D2B) and, dependent of the vehicle equipment, it is
controlled by the following components:

Radio (A2)

Radio and navigation unit (A2/56)

^

COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3)

The CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) generates messages for the following operating states:

No magazine in CD changer

^

Magazine occupation

^

Number of current CD

^

Number of current title

^

List of occupied CD insertion slots

^

Number of titles per CD

^

Current operating state (playback, pause, etc.)

The audio data is stored digitally on the CD.- In the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) the CD is driven by a motor. The
laser-optical device scans the side of the rotating CD with no label without touching and converts the digital optical signals into electric signals. Minor
blackouts in the laser-optical device's data flow, which are caused by scratches or contamination on the CD, are subsequently compensated for. The
electrical signals are ultimately decoded in the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) and sent via the D2B, dependent on the equipment
of the vehicle, e.g. to the radio (A2) or the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3).

In order to test the D2B system when installing and to localize any fault sources or in order to be able to reproduce faults which have occurred during
operation, a diagnosis mode has been implemented in the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6). After the CD player with changer (in
glove compartment) (A2/6) has received the diagnosis message (diagnosis active), it switches to the diagnostic mode and is ready to accept or transmit
diagnosis data. During diagnosis the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) is fully operational.
