Each CD is assigned a permanently stored so-called table of contents (TOC) entry. This allows the COMAND system to clearly recognize each CD and
automatically assign it a name once the user has given it a title (even when the CD is then inserted in another CD magazine).

The TOC entry also contains information on the number of titles on a CD and the total CD playing time.

CD operation with integrated CD drive

The COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3) has an integrated CD drive which serves alternately for loading the navigation data for
playing audio CDs. (It is not possible to play an audio CD during navigation operation)

Volume setting

Changing the volume of one audio source has an equivalent effect on all other audio sources. In the same manner the volume for the service sources is
adjusted in common.

The volume of the voice output for navigation can be changed during voice output output. Here, an adjustable interval is maintained between the volume
of the audio signal and the voice output automatically (can be adjusted in "Settings" menu). This ensures that voice output can be heard well even when
the audio system is loud.

Tone settings

The COMAND system allows various tone settings (e.g. bass/treble, balance, fader, ...) for each audio source. The tone settings selected for the radio
apply simultaneously for the traffic station announcements. Settings selected for the navigation voice output also affect the voice control system.
Moreover, permanently stored tone settings can be called, e.g.:

When the tone focus (balance, fader) is changed, the volume ratio for the individual speakers changes.

The preparation of the signals required for the volume and tone settings is accomplished by the audio components integrated into the COMAND
operating, display and control module (A40/3). When the vehicle is also equipped with sound system (with code 810), the sound system amplifier
(N40/3) provides for final amplification of the audio signals.
