Convertible Top Control Module: Description and Operation

Roll bar/soft top operation control module

Purpose

-

Control of soft top, rollbar and rear power windows.

Design

Integrated sensor circuitry for measurement of vehicle inclination and acceleration.

Function

Actuation of soft top indicator lamp, See: Body and Frame/Roof and Associated Components/Convertible Top/Description and Operation

The rollbar/soft top operation control module (N52) controls the following systems and functions:

-

Soft top
Evaluation of positions of power soft top switch (S84) and limit switches.
Actuation of solenoid valves in soft top control valve block (7 connections, Y56/2) and relay (A7/5k1).

Rollbar
Evaluation of positions of rollbar switch (convenience, S83) and limit switches.
Actuation of solenoid valves in rollbar (RB) valve block (Y57) and rollbar (RB) deployment solenoid (Y57/1).

Power windows
Evaluation of left front power window switch in front center console (S21/1) and right front power window switch in front center console (S21/2)
and relay of switch positions to CAN bus. Direct control of rear power window motors after receipt of corresponding CAN message.

Air conditioning
When the soft top is opened, the temperature sensor (B10/4b1) for the air conditioning is connected to ground potential by N52.

Rear window defroster element (R1) and remote trunk release 
When the soft top is closed the control module N52 cyclically outputs the following messages to the CAN bus: "SOFT TOP CLOSED", "SOFT
TOP OPEN" or "SOFT TOP RELEASED". When the messages "SOFT TOP OPEN " or "SOFT TOP RELEASED" are present the PSE control
module (combined) (A37) switches off the rear window defroster element (R1) and inhibits it being switched on again.

When the soft top is closed again the PSE releases control of the rear window defroster (R1).

As long as switch S84 is pressed or the CAN message "SOFT TOP RELEASE" is present operation of the remote trunk release is not possible.
