As part of the liberalization of EU regulations, legislation no longer requires an inspection at an authorized technical test center (for example the German
Technical Inspection Association (TUV)) when retrofitting a trailer hitch (AHV))

Prerequisites:

The additional phrase "if installed at the factory" must be printed in the registration papers (in clause 33 to clause 27: E1 00...).

An E1 test symbol must be affixed to the trailer hitch.

For older vehicles or trailer hitches, with national test symbol (no E1 test symbol), the installation test at an authorized technical test point (e.g. Technical
Inspection Association) continues to apply.

The diameter of the coupling ball, measured with a caliper gauge, must measure at least 49 mm at all points. The ball must be greased before use to
reduce wear. Advise the customer accordingly.

On trailers with anti-swerve device it is not necessary to grease the ball (refer to trailer instructions). Advise the customer accordingly.

Advise the customer to read the "Trailer hitch" and "Towing a trailer" sections in the vehicle owner's manual.

The body sealant and underfloor protection must be removed from all the body mounting points of the trailer hitch. The mounting points should then be
cleaned with a commercially available cleaning agent. Apply anticorrosion paint to bare-metal areas of the body.

Trailer hitches are homologated safety parts. Their installation on the vehicle is to be carried out exclusively by trained, professional technicians. Trailer
hitches, which are damaged because of an accident, bottoming or being run into from behind, must be replaced; subsequent alterations such as bending,
mechanical processing or welding are not permissible.

When retrofitting a trailer hitch on model 209.4, a 600 W blower motor must potentially be retrofitted for the radiator. Check in the EPC if the electric
fan installed in accordance with the vehicle equipment can be used for the retrofitting of the trailer hitch (AHV). If necessary, the electric fan must be
removed and replaced with one that is compatible with the trailer hitch.
In the event that the listed component is not retrofitted this will render the warranty/goodwill null and void.

When retrofitting a trailer hitch on model 209.461 with code (423) Automatic 5-speed transmission (NAG), and on model 209.475 a shield must be
retrofitted to the solenoid switch of the starter.
In the event that the listed component is not retrofitted this will render the warranty/goodwill null and void.
