General information on actuator motors and flap control

Positioning of flaps with resolution < 1 %.
To ensure that the actuator motors do not readjust at each slight change of variables in closed-loop operation, a so-called "clearance function" has been
realized.
If a position has been set, then the relevant variables should be less than or greater than a defined limit until this position is changed again.
Final values are approached directly (0 %, 100 %).

"Flash fog" function

The function prevents the windshield and side windows from fogging up after starting the engine by blowing the moist air, immediately after starting,
into the vehicle footwell instead of against the windows.

The function is aborted if the center level is 100 % open during automatic air distribution.

Flap automatic system and manual flap operation

The flaps are immediately moved to a so-called park position via actuator motors following Ignition OFF:

Footwell flaps open,

^

Defroster flaps closed,

^

Fresh air and air recirculation flaps 50% open,

^

All other flaps remain in the last valid position.

Special function with residual engine heat utilization (with code (670) residual engine heat utilization system (REST [MRA]))

The flaps are moved to the following positions 30 ms following residual engine heat utilization on (with circuit 15 Off):

Footwell flaps open

^

Defroster flaps 66% open

^

Fresh air/air recirculation flaps open (fresh air

^

Fresh air flaps 20 % open

^

blend air flaps controlled

The flaps remain in the park position for the first 30 s following circuit 15 On.
After this time has elapsed, the flap positions for the automatic or manual adjustment apply.

Fresh air flaps actuator motor (M2/21)

The fresh air flaps actuator motor (M2/21) actuates the fresh air flaps for air flow control to center vent and air vent
Depending upon the desired air outlet temperature at the center vent, the fresh air flaps actuator motor (M2/21) is actuated via the AAC control and
operating unit (N22) and the AC bus.

Actuation with "defrosting":

Fresh air flaps 0 % closed

Actuation for "REST":

Fresh air flaps 20 % open

Actuation for circuit 15 Off:

remain in previous condition

Automatic flap control

Fresh air flaps 25 % open.
The fresh air flaps are opened linearly up to 100 %, depending on the following values:

Blend air flap setting

^

Coolant temperature

^

Evaporator temperature

Manual flap control

In manual mode the positions of the fresh air flaps are determined by the 2 selector wheels on the center vent.
