Function

Control of CD player

The CD player with changer (A2/6) is controlled via the digital data bus (D2B), depending on the vehicle equipment by

-

Radio (A2) or by the

-

COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3)

The CD player generates messages on the following operating states:

-

No magazine in CD changer

-

Magazine assignment (only for music CD)

-

Number of current CD

-

Number of current title

-

List of slots used (CD's)

-

Number of titles per disk

-

Momentary operating state (play, pause, etc.)

The messages are transferred on the D2B bus and interpreted by the radio (A2) or A40/3n1.

CD playback

Digital audio data is stored on the CD-ROM. In the CD player, the audio CD is driven by a motor. The laser optical system scans the unlabelled side of
the rotating CD without contact and converts the digital optical signals into electrical signals. Minor failures in the data flow from the laser optical
system resulting from scratches or contamination on the audio CD are interpolated later by the DA converter and thereby compensated.
The electrical signals are decoded in the CD changer and transferred via the D2B bus to the A40/3 or the radio (A2) or the sound amplifier
(A2/13)/sound system amplifier (N40/3) depending on the vehicle equipment.

Jumps and faults while playing

On poor roads and when heavy vibrations occur jumps and faults can occur during playback. In such cases, wait until the road conditions improve before
operating the CD.

Moisture can collect in the CD player housing (condensate) under wet conditions or heavy variation in the ambient temperature. This can also lead to
interference during playback. In such cases, provide for sufficient ventilation of the CD player and trunk.
