Emergency call (E-CALL), general
Emergency Call (E-CALL) is an automatic emergency call system that utilizes the availability of new technologies such as vehicle location finding via
satellite and mobile telecommunications for minimizing the consequences of accidents.
The emergency call, as well as an exact location description are made possible with E-Call, irrespective of human misconduct in stress situations.
Function sequence
An Emergency call can be triggered automatically or manually. The following types of triggering should be distinguished for this:
Automatic triggering process
^
by the restraint systems control module (N2/7)
^
by the tilted cone sensor integrated in the E-call control module (A35/8) B66.
Manual triggering process
^
By pressing the SOS pushbutton switch (S93/3)
Note from Japanese government:
1. Official confirmation of position specifications is determined by the police and the person involved in the accident.
2. The position detail is only additional information
If an alarm is triggered, an emergency call telegram is compiled by the E-call control module (A35/8), which contains information on the severity of the
accident, identification of the vehicle, the vehicle position and on the type of alarm triggering. The emergency call telegram is transmitted via the vehicle
telephone equipment.
If the CTEL antenna is faulty, a switchover is made automatically to the Emergency Call backup antennae (A2/50).
