If a system has been shut down it can still be switched back on again manually. The warning procedure ensues each time until the fault is eliminated.

Battery voltage below 9.5 V (undervoltage)

The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is automatically put into a defined standby condition in which only the battery voltage is
monitored. In addition to this the current operating status is stored. The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) cannot be operated or
accessed using STAR DIAGNOSIS when it is in this condition. Communication with external components does not take place.

Exceptions to switch-off behavior (run-on mode) if destination not reached (model 203 as of 1.7.02):

The navigation system remains active up to t = 30 min. (e.g. when refueling, having a snack). The navigation continues once the vehicle is
restarted.

After t = 30 min up to max. 2 h the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) remains in "Sleep mode". The route is calculated again
after the vehicle is restarted and the navigation continued

After the expiry of t = 2 h, a request is displayed when the vehicle is restarted asking if the route is to be calculated again.
"YES" = Route to be calculated again
"NO" = Navigation to be ended

ON/Off characteristics
Activation of entire system

By inserting the transmitter key (A8/1) into the electronic ignition switch control module (N73) in position 0 "terminal 15C" only the bus systems are
activated for 3 min, in order to enable a faster switch-on process.
This process is initiated by the radio (A2) over the wake-up line by means of a signal. A wake-up signal can also be triggered by the telephone for
example.

If the radio (A2) is switched on with the ON button (ON/OFF), automatic cutout occurs after 30 minutes.

Position 1

By turning the transmitter key (A8/1) to position 1 "terminal 15R ON" the device is switched on, insofar as it was switched on before the last removal of
the transmitter key (A8/1). It remains in operation, until the transmitter key (A8/1) is removed again.

Position 2

By turning the transmitter key (A8/1) in position 2 "terminal 15 ON" all functions in the vehicle are operational.
The system which was active before it was last switched off is switched on and the corresponding basic menu is displayed.

Position 3

The engine is started in position 3 of the transmitter key (A8/1) "terminal 50 ON". If a considerable voltage drop occurs while starting the engine, the
system switches off for this duration but switches back on again once the on-board electrical system has stabilized.

Characteristics when pressing the ON/OFF button

The radio (A2) can also be switched on when the transmitter key (A8/1) is removed, by pressing the ON/OFF button on the rotary switch. All D2B
functions are then available for 30 minutes. The system switches off automatically once this time has elapsed. Once switched off the radio (A2) can be
switched on again by pressing the On/Off button. The cycle starts all over again.
