Component Identification

Location

The trunk lid drive unit is located on the left trunk lid hinge.

Design

The trunk lid drive unit consists of the trunk lid opening angle detection sensor (B24/16), the trunk lid drive motor (M51/2) with integrated sliding clutch
and drive mechanism.

Function

The trunk lid drive motor opens and closes the trunk lid via the drive mechanism. The motion is monitored by the trunk lid opening angle detection
sensor. Upon reaching the end positions (normalized) stored in the TLC control unit, the trunk lid drive motor is switched off.
The TLC control unit takes over control of the trunk lid drive motor and evaluation of the trunk lid opening angle detection sensor.

A sliding clutch between the trunk lid drive motor and drive mechanism allows the trunk lid to be closed manually.

Lockup recognition and overload protection

The TLC control unit recognizes the status and speed change of the trunk lid with the aid of the trunk lid opening angle detection sensor.

During the closing operation, the trunk lid drive motor is reversed and the trunk lid returns to the initial position.

During the opening operation, the trunk lid drive motor is switched off and the trunk lid remains in the momentary position.
