Headlamp Switch: Description and Operation

Component Identification
Location
The rotary light switch is on the left next to the steering wheel.
Design
The rotary light switch contains the following components:

Fog lamps indicator lamp (S1e1)
^
Rear fog lamp indicator lamp (S1e2)
^
Standing lamps indicator lamp (S1e3)
^
HCS [SRA] switch (S1s1) (up to 31.5.07 with code (615) Bi- xenon headlamp unit with integrated curve illumination or with code (600)
Headlamp cleaning system)

Headlamp range adjustment selector wheel (S1s8) (without code (615) Bi-xenon headlamp unit with integrated curve illumination)
The following positions can also be selected by turning it:
^
left parking lamp (1)
^
right parking lamp (2)
^
off (3)
^
auto on/off headlamps (4)

standing lamp (5)

low beam (6)
Turning the rotary light switch to the low beam position and pulling it out to the first latching point switches on the front fog lamps; pulling it out
to the second latching point also switches on the rear fog lamp.
The position of the rotary light switch and actuation of the HCS [SRA] switch is read in directly by the driver SAM control unit with fuse and relay
module (N10/1). The function relevant to the position of the rotary light switch is then switched on.
