Brake Bleeding: Service and Repair

NOTE:  On air bag equipped vehicles, refer to Air Bags and Seat Belts, Service Precautions. Also refer to the Arming and Disarming procedure under
Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems). 

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. On vehicles with ASR, proceed as follows:

a. Remove hydraulic unit cover.
b. Drain pressure reservoir from bleed screw SP.
c. Actuate cylinder switchover valve with harness.

3. Proceed as follows:

a. Screw off screw cap and connect filling and bleeding unit.
b. Start bleeding RR caliper, then LR, RF and LF caliper, bleed all calipers, allowing brake fluid to drain until clear bubble-free brake fluid exits,

torque bleeder screw to 5 ft. lbs. 

c. Disconnect shop-made harness.

4. On vehicles with ASR, proceed as follows:

a. Start engine.
b. Open SP bleed screw until clear bubble-free brake fluid exits.
c. Close SP bleed screw and wait for ASR pressurizing pump to activate. (Pump runs audibly for approximately 30 seconds).
d. Shut off engine.

5. Proceed as follows:

a. Disconnect filling and bleeding unit and correct brake fluid level in brake fluid supply reservoir.
b. Screw on cap.
c. Disconnect connector on front side of switch over valve for master brake cylinder.
d. Connect flat connector from shop-made wiring harness with alligator clip from electrical connection kit to fuse in fuse box.
e. Connect plug with alligator clip from electrical connection kit to ground for hydraulic unit mount.
f.

Connect connector to master brake cylinder switchover valve.
