Water Pump: Service and Repair
Removal and Installation

NOTE:  Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.

REMOVAL 

WARNING:

Risk of scalding as a result of hot coolant spraying out

^

Open cap of expansion reservoir or radiator (2)

^

Do not open the cap of the expansion reservoir or radiator unless the coolant temperature is below 90°C.

Carefully turn cap to the first detent or slowly about 1/2 turn.

Wear protective clothing. 

1. Drain coolant at radiator and crankcase, refer to Draining/Filling Cooling System.
2. Remove viscous fan coupling, refer to Replacement. See: Radiator Cooling Fan/Fan Clutch/Service and Repair
3. Slacken bolts of belt pulley at coolant pump (5) as follows:

Fit on counter-holder at belt pulley of coolant pump (5)
Loosen bolts

4. Remove poly V-belt, refer to Engine. 

Inspect poly V-belt, belt pulleys and tensioning device for signs of dirt and damage and replace if necessary

5. Take off belt pulley of coolant pump (5)
6. Position piston of cylinder 1 to TDC

Rotate engine at crankshaft in normal direction of rotation only.

CAUTION:  Do not turn engine backward.

7. Unbolt bracket of TDC sensor (17)

CAUTION:  After unbolting the TDC sensor bracket, do not crank engine any further.

8. Unbolt coolant pump (6) at coolant pump housing (11)

Pay attention to dowel sleeves (9).

INSTALLATION

Install in the reverse order, noting the following:

Installation: clean coolant pump (6) sealing surfaces.
Replace coolant pump (6) gasket (10).
Pay attention to coolant pump (6) dowel sleeves (9).
Install TDC sensor (17) so that the pointer is aligned with the TDC marking on vibration damper, if necessary:

Check setting of bracket of TDC sensor and correct, refer to Engine.

Inspect cooling system for leaks
