Drive Belt Tensioner: Service and Repair
Tensioner Assembly

NOTE:  Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.

REMOVAL

1. Remove viscous fan coupling, refer to Cooling System.
2. Remove poly V-belt (5). 
3. Remove shock absorber of poly V-belt tensioning device (1)
4. Pry off end covers (7, 11) at tensioning pulley and bearing pin
5. Remove tensioning pulley (14)
6. Unscrew bearing pin (12) at crankcase
7. Remove tensioning lever (10) .

Pay attention to shim (13).

INSTALLATION

-

Install in the reverse order, noting the following:

Before installing a new shock absorber, it is essential to move the piston rod of the shock absorber back and forward several times in the
installed position to bleed the shock absorber.
Before installing bearing pin (12) at crankcase, clean thread (free of grease) and coat with sealant.

Tighten the following components to:

Tensioning Pulley Bolts: 30 Nm
Bearing Pin For Tensioning Lever: 100 Nm
Tensioner Shock Absorber To Cylinder Head: 25 Nm
Tensioner Shock Absorber To Tensioner Lever: 20 Nm
