Diesel MFI Pump: Description and Operation
Injected Quantity Control Function
Function
Zero delivery (A)
Fuel flows back through the longitudinal groove during each stroke.
Partial delivery (B)
Control edge releases return flow after partial stroke.
Full delivery (C)
Effective stroke corresponds to maximum delivery.
Fuel delivery ends once the control edge and the feed and control bore coincide. A variable end of delivery is achieved by turning the control
plunger by means of the control rod.
End of delivery advanced =
small quantity injected
End of delivery retarded =
large quantity injected
If the longitudinal groove of the pump plunger and the feed and control bore are opposite each other, no further pressure is created, i.e. no further
fuel is delivered. This state exists during engine off and inertia fuel shutoff (zero delivery).
