Side Air Bag: Description and Operation
Side Airbag Sensor

Purpose

The side airbag sensors (A53/1 and A54/1) sense the acceleration/deceleration acting on the vehicle in the lateral direction and cause the airbag control
module (N2/7) to perform a plausibility check. If the values are plausible, an actuation signal is sent to the affected side airbags/window airbags.

Function

The side airbag sensors sense the acceleration acting in the lateral direction of the vehicle in the event of a side collision and initiate a logic check in the 
ETR control module with airbag (N2/2). If the values coincide a triggering signal is sent to the side airbag squibs (R12/9 and R12/10).
