Tilt Wheel Switch: Description and Operation

NOTE:  Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.

STEERING WHEEL ADJUSTMENT 

WARNING:

^

Only adjust the steering wheel when the vehicle is at a standstill.

^

Remove the key from the steering lock, even when leaving the vehicle briefly.

^

However the steering wheel can continue to be adjusted when a front door is open. Therefore children should not be left unsupervised in
the vehicle. 

NOTE:  Steering column up/down and in/out switches (S91s11/S9ls12 or S92s11/S92s12) are located in the seat adjustment switch groups S91 (LHS)
or S92 (RHS).

STEERING COLUMN ADJUSTMENT

Key in steering lock in position 1 or 2 (when a front door is open also with the key removed or key position 0).

Longitudinal direction: Operate steering column up/down and in/out switches (S91s12 or S92s12) forwards or backwards (55 mm adjustment).

Height: Operate steering column up/down and in/out switches (S91s11 or S92s12) up or down (50 mm adjustment).

If the special equipment comprising of seat adjustment switch with memory is installed on the driver's side, then the electrically adjustable jacket
tube is also incorporated in the memory circuit. When the memory button switch (S91s6/S91s7/S91s8 or S92s6/S92s7/S92s8) is operated, the
programmed steering column adjustment and the exterior mirror adjustments are also adjusted in addition to the programmed seat adjustment.

The steering column adjustment motors (M20) are actuated by the steering column up/down and in/out switches (S91s11/S91s12 or
S92s11/S92s12) with voltage coding to the seat adjustment control module (N32/1 or N32/2) and from there to the multifunction control module
(N10) via two CAN data lines. From there the steering column adjustment motors (M20) are supplied with voltage directly.

FUNCTIONAL PREREQUISITES 

The prerequisite governing an adjustment of the steering column is checked in the seat control module (except in the event of undervoltage or
overvoltage)

PREREQUISITE FOR A PROGRAMMED ADJUSTMENT:

Load supply term. 30C and term. 31B on the multi-function control module (N10)

No undervoltage or overvoltage and 

^

Terminal 15R on or:

^

Convenience voltage 15R30 on (with driver's and/or front passenger's door open, for max. of 5 minutes).

The position of the steering column is determined by a potentiometer on each of the motors for the adjustment function.

ADJUSTMENT
