Transmission Flare While Performing 1-2 and/or Upshift in Cold Condition

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicle of a transmission flare between first and second gear or second and third gear when cold or
from the first several shifts of the day, do not replace any parts.

The CDI control module (N3/9) must be updated using the Flashware CD (0054488540_001). This Flashware update can be used with the following
DAS versions 11/06, 1/07, and 2/07.

NOTE:  

Ensure that when using 11/06 software you also have software patch 2006-11-28-0657 otherwise you may have an SCN coding issue. Refer to below
(* asterisk) for details.

Warning:

-

Connect Battery Charger

-

Switch off all electrical consumers

-

Suction fan runs at high speed during the programming process

-

Make sure that the diagnostic plug is properly seated in the diagnostic socket

-

The diagnostic connector must remain plugged into the vehicle

-

Do not perform any procedures on the vehicle during control unit programming

Printout the current CDI Control Module, Control unit Version screen prior to performing the flash for later reference.

Insert the Flashware CD (0054488540_001) into the DVD drive and use with the following path for flashing: Main groups -> Control units -> Drive ->
CDI5 Common Rail Diesel Injection (USA) -> Control unit adaptations -> Control module programming -> Control unit programming with DVD or
removable media.

NOTE:

-

After the software flash, perform the SCN coding and CVN coding. Refer to Star TekInfo Document S-B-07.61/38i, S-B-58.00/144b or
S-B-07.08/43b for the procedure and coding.

Should you encounter the following message "No newer control module software was found" while trying to flash from the Flashware CD
(0054488540_001), first flash the control unit using the "Hard disk: Version --------", after SCN and CVN coding then flash the CDI control unit
using the "Control unit programming with DVD or removable media" as instructed above.

Compare the prior CDI Control Module, Control unit Version screen printout to the current screen after performing the flash to ensure the software has
been updated. Software should now be - MB object number for software: 0054488540.

*Unable to SCN Code OM642 CDI control module after Flashware update (0054488540_001)

It has been reported in some cases an SCN Code cannot be generated after flashing the OM642 control module as described above. If this occurs, too
many characters will be visible in the part number line of the Determine Vehicle data for SCN Coding screen. This condition can occur if patch
2006-11-28-0657 is not installed on DAS 11/06.

To resolve, update the SDS with patch 2006-11-28-0657 and perform the process again. Patch 0657 was not distributed on CD ROM and must be
downloaded. For full installation instructions, go to the Info button found on the Star Diagnosis Desktop.

Look under the Networking of Star Diagnosis System (for administrators) subject and then click on the document "Performing Online Updates"

Some knowledge of the dealer's I/T Network may be needed to setup the On-Line Update utility.
