Audio/COMAND(R) Systems - Noise/Erratic Operation

Static Noise from Speakers / COMAND Subsequently Shuts OFF and ON Without Obvious Cause

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of audible static noise from speakers causing the COMAND head unit to intermittently shut
OFF then ON for no obvious reasons, the cause may be the Fiber Optical (MOST) Cable is not sufficiently damped between the Audio Gateway (AGW)
and the Navigation Processor (NAVI).

Note

Please do NOT replace any parts at this time follow the procedure below:

1.

Read out the AGW Serial Number using Star Diagnosis using:

Control Units

^

Information and communication

^

Audio, video, navigation and telematics

^

AGW-Audio Gateway (MOST network management, diagnosis gateway, radio tuner)

^

Select the control unit AGW and check the module's version

Affected Control Module are as follows

^

AGW Basic USA: A211 827 43 42 up to the following serial numbers 3 1022496

^

AGW Sound USA: A211 827 46 42 up to the following serial numbers 3 1032438

If the control module serial numbers are below the ones listed above, extend a MOST cable between the AGW and the NAVI using the procedure:

a.

Prepare a retrofit wiring harness consisting of part numbers:

A211 440 92 05 (2 Cables are needed) and A211 540 68 33 (1 cable is needed)

Note:

In some cases, the MOST Cable A211 540 68 33 already exists.

b.

Remove number "16" MOST cable from the plug housing on the AGW and the NAVI.

C.

Install the retrofit harness A211 540 68 33 (if needed) underneath the AGW between insulation and the frame to the front making sure that
the over-bent protection device is clipped into the plug housing.

d.

Install the other retrofit harness A211 440 92 05 between the AGW and the NAVI

e.

Secure any loose or disabled cables tightly to the other cables to prevent rattling noises.

f.

Lock up the MOST ring by insuring all light direction is correctly in place.

g.

Start COMAND Head Unit

h.

Check the map display and the audio source in the "Navigation" application.
