Seat Belt Reminder Telltale Light Illuminated and Chime Sounding When Passenger's Seat Not Occupied

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of the seat belt reminder telltale light illuminating along with the reminder chime sounding
when there is no occupant in the passenger's front seat and the driver's seat belt is fastened, the Weight Sensing Seat (WSS) control module may need to
be replaced.

Note: 

As of Model Year 2005, the enhanced seat belt reminder telltale and chime will trigger when the driver's seat belt is not fastened and or the
front passenger's seat belt is not fastened and the WSS control module (N2/13) detects an occupant weight of approximately 5 kg (11 lbs.) or
greater on the front passengers seat. Customers should be made aware of the notice in their owner's manual about not placing any items on the
front seat as the system will sense the front seat as being occupied. This text can be found in Operators Manual P-6515-1130-13 MY 2005,
Edition B on Page 357.

If the customer report is specifically that when the front passenger's seat is not occupied and an item of less than 5 kg (11 lbs.) is placed on the seat
and seat belt reminder is active, then a revised WSS control unit may be installed. The revised WSS control unit utilizes an increased weight
triggering threshold of 9 kg (20 lbs.).

Remove the old WSS control unit as per WIS instruction AR91.60-P-0800T and replace WSS control unit with part number listed in the parts
information section below.

Use STAR Diagnosis to recalibrate the WSS sensor by following the path: Control Units --> Body --> WSS --> Initial Start-up/Recalibration

Utilize Special Tool W 211 589 00 32 00 for the recalibration procedure. This should already be in every MB dealers Special Tool Inventory as it
was released and automatically shipped to all dealers in March 2004.
