Clunking / Cracking Noises from Rear Axle

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of clunking/cracking noises from the rear axle while traveling between 25 and 45 mph
during a load change (acceleration or brake), verify whether this is a normal vehicle characteristic or if the vehicle/component is malfunctioning
per the below information.

The clunking/cracking noise may be the result of the normal operation of the Airmatic suspension switching valves request for additional air
volume. The energizing of the switching valves is calculated on the basis of the engine and braking torques, which causes the valves to switch in
order to reduce the tendency of the vehicle to roll.

Noise Check: 

Drive at a steady speed of 30 mph and operate the damper adjustment at stage 2. When stage 2 is activated, the switching valves are then powered
up and the switching noise can be identified.

Malfunctioning Component Check: 

Using Star Diagnosis, actuate the switching valves for all four suspension struts to amplify the volume. If one of the switching valves for one
suspension strut is noticeably louder than the others, replace the affected component. The four valves should be equally loud in volume, which
would represent a normally operating system.
